How old is your IT equipment?

upgrade

In small and medium businesses, the importance is not simply in having IT equipment but having up to date, reliable and fast systems. With technology constantly advancing at a very rapid rate, companies are not only required to use IT tools more often but also to constantly update software as well as the machines themselves.

IT Support Nebraska

IT Support

Whether you run a large company or only employ a few people, you need to have some sort of IT support. When just starting off, chances are the company doesn't have the kind of funds available to pay for an in house IT support staff. This requires you to pay individuals salary, not to mention the cost of equipment they need to properly run and maintain the hardware. This becomes a rather large drain on the company, so if you are looking at saving a good deal of money, you may want to start outsourcing the IT support staff. The outsourced IT support staff is still able to ensure your website and products are running smoothly at all time, only instead of having the staff in house, you contact out a third party organization.

Developing A BYOD Strategy: Balancing Access and Security

BYOD

Many businesses need their employees to be able to respond to developing situations and work on projects while they're out of the office. Mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops allow workers to stay connected and productive wherever they go. Providing devices for your workforce can get expensive, which is where a BYOD, or "bring your own device," approach can serve your business. Under this strategy, your employees are allowed to use their personal devices for company business.

VOIP and the Mobile Worker

Shoretel Diagram
While there are multiple solutions to keeping mobile workers in touch and in the know, they're not all created equal.  Some of them work rather well, but cost an arm and a leg.  Some are more affordable, but simply don't offer the reliability or quality that a business would require of a communication service.  Thanks to the advent of new technology, VOIP creates a solution that's a combination of affordability and performance.

What is It?

The term VOIP breaks down as follows - "Voice over IP".  In short, VOIP services use the internet to send and receive calls through cell phones rather than traditional services and plans.   VOIP is available on smartphones and internet devices, and can usually function over 3G or WiFi networks; it simply substitutes a digital version of an analog phone line.

How Does that Benefit Mobile Workers?

Understanding the impact that VOIP has to a mobile workforce should start with what it doesn't do.  VOIP doesn't:
  • Require Wires - VOIP works through existing smart phones, so there's no need for employees to be hardwired in their hotel rooms or remote offices.
  • Have Roaming Charges - The segmented nature of talk, text and data services through traditional phone providers simply doesn't exist in a VOIP framework.  Users will experience a service that lets them focus more on work, and less on where they are.

Now that we know what VOIP doesn't do, lets see what it does:

Video Conferencing Systems and Equipment | LifeSize

Video Conference

Many of us have suffered through video conferences that utilized low-resolution, webcam-quality technology. Given the pixely image, less-than-full-motion video and poor audio, you sometimes wonder why they didn’t just make a conference call, instead. There's a good reason: the need for visual collaboration. Studies have shown that a company’s “collaboration index”—its capacity for direct communication between decentralized, often far-flung employees and teams—is a substantial predictor of its success in the global economy. Standard definition video conferencing provides the face-to-face factor. High definition video conference technology adds real-life immediacy, clarity and effectiveness.
